Harry Wardman

1872–1938 · Prolific Washington developer who built Brightwood's Fort Stevens Ridge

An English-born developer responsible for thousands of Washington rowhouses, apartments, and hotels, Wardman in 1920 bought a Brightwood tract, named it Fort Stevens Ridge, and built hundreds of semi-detached and detached homes that shaped the neighborhood's residential fabric. He lost his fortune in the 1929 crash and rebuilt as a homebuilder until his death.

Connection to Brightwood: Developed the Fort Stevens Ridge subdivision in Brightwood in the 1920s.
